Cocktail Friday: a Pina Colada

It’s weeeeeeeeeekend and Cocktail Friday again. This time I have chosen a Pina Colada .
I love those Pina Coladas! And not the ready made Pina Coladas out of a bottle, but selfmade Pina Cola. When I’m writing this blog, I’m zipping on the Pina Cola that I just photographed for this Blog post. Normally we always pretaste the cocktails the night before Cocktail Friday, but yesterday we were very busy with working on my atelier. So I had to taste this one on my own tonight. But this is a golden oldie for us, so I know allready that this one is one of M.’s favourites too. Read more for the Recipe.

On Wikipedia I read that that the name Pina Colada comes from strained pineapple. You can use fresh pineapple in the Pina Colada, which you press and strain for the drink.
Like with every famous cocktail there are again more bartenders who claim to have invented this cocktail.
They are all Puerto Rican bartenders. Ramón ‘Monchito’ Marrero Pérez said he made the first one in San Juan in 1952 at the Caribe Hilton Hotel’s Beachcomber Bar, he said he was using the Coco Lopez cream of coconut, who was just new on the market.
Ricardo García is another bartender who claimed to have invented this cocktail. And that is the same for Ramón Portas Mingot, who claims that he has created this cocktail at the Barrachina Restaurant in San Juan in 1963.
For us it doesn’t matter who made it, it’s just a nice cocktail.

In the time of internet you can find a lot of different recipes of the Pina Colada cocktail. I like one recipe the most, the recipe below, very simple, but it tastes great. In the recipe I said that you can use 1 – 1,5 part rum. For me that depends on my day and what I have to do after the cocktail;-). It also says 1,5 – 2 parts Pineapple juice. I prefer 1,5 because I like the taste of the coconut. If you put more pineapple juice into it, you taste more of the pineapple and less of the coconut.
About the coconut milk, be careful to take the milk and not the coconut water. There is quite a difference between these two. Coconut milk is creamy and with a very concentrated coconut taste, while the water is just tasting a little bit like coconut.
Enjoy your weekend!!!! I’m off to a birthday party of one of our friends. I’m the Bob today so no more cocktails for me. (Tomorrow dinner with good friends while M. is the Bob, so no problem being the Bob tonight;-))

Edit: This is a post from my old Blog Photos for foodies. I quit with this Blog, but it didn’t feel good to lose all the recipes, that’s why I copied all the posts to Cakes and Pumps and later to Goodlives. This post is written in 2015 by myself.
