Cocktail Friday: a Mojito

Cocktail Friday with a Mojito is a good start of the weekend. When I was in my twenties I used to drink Rum-cola’s (or Cuba Libres if you prefer that name) if I drunk a cocktail. A Mojito wasn’t popular at all in Holland. I don’t know exactly when I drunk this cocktail for the first time, I think somewhere in 2009 just before we went for a vacation to Brasil, the land of the Caiparinha’s. Rum is one of my favorite mixing drinks, so the Mojito easily became one of the more often made or ordered cocktails.

Focaccia Bread, homemade with rosemary, olive oil and sea salt

I love to bake my own bread. Despite the hype these days not to eat (too much) bread, I’m going to try to bake a new bread every week. I love eating bread! I mostly eat kellogg Special K with pure Chocolate every day, but that’s mostly because I’m lazy in the morning and for lunch, specially when I have to go to work. Baking my own bread is time consuming and that’s something I don’t have on work days. Baking a bread like this delicious Focaccia bread, is taking up to at least 3 hours before you can really eat it. It’s not that you have to sit next to the bread all the time, but you have to stay close to do some work now and then;-).

Sinterklaas DIY ideas 2016 (#DIY)

Last year I made some Sinterklaas DIY decorations for the first time, in Black and white styling. You can find the Blog about the styling here. It’s always such a nice time, specially since I have a little son myself. Lars is now 3 years old and he is starting to like it a lot. For this year I also wanted to make some nice things. Ideas enough, only less time. For a couple of weeks I’m working on my master thesis again, and this takes so much time. So I only made two new things, black painted clogs and two pepper nut glass jars with Sinterklaas and Piet glued on it.

Cocktail Friday: a Hugo cocktail

Yoehoe, it’s weekend. Time for the first cocktail that I move from Photos for Foodies to cakesandpumps.com’s Cocktail Friday. I wrote this post with the summer in my mind and I made this nice Hugo cocktail. But who cares, this cocktail is also great in autumn or winter
You can buy a Hugo cocktail in bottles. Some of them are ok, but nothing beats a nice homemade cocktail.
For the kind of Hugo cocktail that I like, you need Prosecco, Sodawater, Elder Flower Liquor and Martini Bianco. Most people don’t make the Hugo with Martini, but it gives a nice flavor, so just try it!

The sizes of the ingredients in the recipes are in parts. When I make this cocktail, I use a water jug to fill instead of a glass. That’s much easier, then making it immediately in a glass, specially since most of the time we drink more than one glass;-)

DIY: make your own tipi / teepee tent

!!!Working on the translation!!!

Like a lot of little kids, my son Lars is crazy about tents. So it seems nice to make him a teepee (tipi) tent. After some search on the internet I found a couple examples. Then the search for the perfect fabric started. I knew the teepee shouldn’t be too small, because I could imagine that papa and mama need to play with Larsman in the teepee too. And a big teepee means a lot of fabric, so I wanted not to expansive fabric. And preferabel one that fits on different places in the house. And be great for a boy. Pfew, that made it difficult to find the perfect fabric.

Cupcakes for being a non-smoker for one year

These days it’s almost 2,5 year since I quit smoking. I wrote this post in the first place for Photos for foodies. But I decided to quit my blog Photos for Foodies, because it’s too much work to write for three blogs. It does’t feel right for me if all my blogpost from Photos for foodies will be lost, so I decided to move all the posts to Cakes and Pumps. This is the first post that I move, and happily I’m still a non-smoker. I’m really happy with that, You can read my quit story that I wrote on this blog here
For Photos for foodies I made cupcakes for my colleagues and I want to show you those cupcakes that I made, to celebrate this one-year-non-smoking with my colleagues.
At Bailey lights I have a lot of colleagues who are crazy about food. So next to the talking about lamps, the second important talking is about food.

A new planter on wheels in the kitchen

These days it’s a must to have a lot of green in your house. And with green I mean a lot of plants. I always liked plants in my house, but because of all the dust that comes with rebuilding and reconstruction in the house, most of my plants die in short time. So on a regular basis I have to buy new plants to fill the empty pots;-). But sometimes it’s nice to make a new spot for a nice plant with a great planter. Read further what I did

Pimp the Planter made from fiber clay

A couple of months ago I saw a picture of Robin Berkhuizen on Instagram, with a beautiful terrace made of wood with on it a couple of oblong, black planters. We also have a terrace from wood, so I saw the planters already standing on our terrace. I started looking for such planters everywhere. Nowhere to be found, anyway not against a payable price. And I wanted three of them, preferable all the same size. After a long search I suddenly run into a couple of planters made from Fiber clay. They were not black at all but a strange brown grey color. And you could see that they were outside for a while. But the price was good. So I found my planters and I would paint them black myself.

To do list and update of the list july 2016

Do you have that too, you want to do so many things at the same time, and you don’t know where to start anymore? Finally you and up with doing nothing. I have that a lot.
We are rebuilding an old house since the end of 2002. The house is from before 1900 and it’s such a never ending story (but we love the house). These days it’s not only rebuilidng, but also the normal things like painting things again. And at the same time I have new ideas to change things we already rebuilded 10 years ago. Next to that I also get a lot of inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, magazines etc. into my head. For those ideas I’m buying all kind of stuff. Most of the time I start with the idea, but It’s still not finished. It gave me the feeling that my head is floating over. Everywhere there is stuff that needs some work.
So to get things done, I bought a nice, simple notebook at the Hema and I started to write down different categories and projects on different pages. Under that I wrote all things that I could think of that need to be done and my new to do list was born.
Some people are laughing about my to do lists, but somehow this is the only way for me to finish things and to empty my head a little bit and of course to clean up the house;-). So after writing everything down, the To do list exists now of 200 items. This goes from a lot of painting and other things for the house, to clothes I need to fix, things for my Blog and other hobby things that I have in my mind.

Black and white blanket to knit, DIY

Knitting and crocheting a blanket, but also making it from fabrics, I Love it! I have no idea what I will do with al the plaids that I make, but for now they are fun to use in my photos. And they look cosy in the house and they can of course keep us warm on cold days. This Black and white blanket was in my head for some time. So a couple of months ago I started this project. But as usual I started a new one when I was halfway and after that another one. And I was already working on two others…. So finally I decided that could only start with a new one, after I finish one from the todo list. By the way it’s not that I never work on a partly finished plaid. I try to knit or crochet some rows of all the plaids every week, except when it’s too hot. Then I skip the winter plaids. So because I wanted to start with a new summer plaid with cotton, I had to work hard the past few weeks to finish this Black and White one;-) Do you also want to make this Black and White plaid? Read further to read How to do it.
