Cocktail Friday: a Gin Tonic with Hendrick’s Gin

Yesterday we were at a sponsor drink from the Wold Port tournament in Rotterdam. The WPT is a baseball event in July, and since M. is a big baseball fan, and also sponsors the event, we were invited for the drinks, bbq and the baseball game. When we arrived, we got a Gin Tonic as welcome drink, a G&T mojito style. I made a picture of it for Cakes and Pumps, for the #100daysof_summer on instagram that I joined. And one of the comments was if it was a Hendrick’s Gin. I honestly didn’t know and never drunk that special Gin. But by coincident I ordered that Gin last week. So I knew right away that would be the cocktail for Cocktail Friday. Read further for the Gin cocktail.

I like G&T’s (Gin & Tonics), but never made one at home. I checked some sites to buy a good gin, but my my, what a lot of Gin’s. I really didn’t know which one to buy. After some search on the internet, I ordered the Hendrick’s gin, the Bulldog an the Filliers.
And to know a little bit more about gin, I also ordered the book Gin & Tonic, around the world in 80 gins, from Manuel Wouters. I haven’t read it yet, only checked it a little bit. And because I liked the Gin tonics, I will do some more research for Goodlives, about Gin drinks and backgrounds.
But for now I made a Cocktail with Hendrick’s gin and Tonic.

I finally had the Gin that I wanted to use, then the next search came up, because for the tonics it seems like almost the same thing as with the Gin’s, there are a lot of tonics. Of course I can buy a Schweppes in the supermarket, but hey the Hendrick’s Gin is not exactly cheap, so it deserves a good Tonic. And I want to try new cocktails and make it a little bit more fancy than the supermarket stuff;-). So I read that the Fentimans Tonic Water tastes great with Hendrick’s Gin and also the Fever tree Tonic water. Luckily for me they sell them both at our local Liquor store. The Fever tree Tonic water seems to have a soft taste and the Fentimans Tonic water is said to be more spicy.

If you decided which Gin and which Tonic you will use, then a lot of the work is done. But I have never been a bartender, I just try to make the recipe from what I read on the internet or in some cocktail books.
So what I did was this. First I put the Icecubes in a round glass. I moved them a little bit around in the glass and after that I poured the water that melted from the ice cubes out of the glass. I left the ice cubes in the glass.
Then I took around 50 ml of Hendrick’s gin and put it over the ice cubes. You can take a little bit more or a little bit less, but they advice to stay between the 45-60 ml.
After that you fill the glass with tonic. Decorate the glass with very thin slices of cucumber and rosemary. Your G&T is ready.

Oh and you should really check the site of Hendrick’s Gin, it looks fantastic with all kind of drawings. A very Special site!

Edit: This is a post from my old Blog Photos for foodies. I quit with this Blog, but it didn’t feel good to lose all the recipes, that’s why I copied all the posts to Cakes and Pumps and later to Goodlives. This post is written in 2015 by myself.
