Cocktail Friday: a Margarita

For a couple of weeks I thought about making something with tequila, but every time I got an idea for a cocktail without Tequila. So this week I bought a bottle of tequila to finally make a cocktail with it. And then I read on Instagram that it’s World tequila day today on this 24th of October. What a coincidence;-). But what should I make with the Tequila? For the first Tequila cocktail I start with the most famous Tequila cocktail, the Margarita.

A Margarita comes originally from Mexico. This is not so strange, since one of the parts of this cocktail is Tequila, what a typical Mexican drink is. Most of us know the Tequila shots with salt on your hand and then have a bite in a piece of lemon before you drink the Tequila shot. A Margarita is almost the same, only here you put salt on the edge of the glass and the lemon is mixed in the drink. Next to that is a Margarita a lot sweeter than a Tequila shot, because there is also Triple Sec and sugar syrup in the mix. That’s why the Margarita tastes a lot better for me than a Tequila shot. And the good thing with a Margarita is that you can decide for yourself how many salt you want. Just wipe it of the edge if you think it’s too much salt.

The first story about making a Margarita is from Carlos Danny Herrera, who was working at restaurant Rancho la Gloria, Mexico in 1938.
The second story is from 1941, from a guy named Don Carlos Orozco, who was working at Hussong’s Cantina in Ensanada Mexico. He offered one of his experiment’s to the daughter of the German ambassador, called Margarita Henkel. She liked it and she was the first one to drink it, so he named the cocktail after her. (source: Wikipedia).
A lot of stories can be found on the internet about the Margarita, but the one from 1941 sounds like a good one to me.

Next to drinking this great cocktail, I will work some more on the house this weekend and go to the World Port baseball Tournament in Rotterdam. What are your plans this weekend? Lazy things, hard working or something in between?
Enjoy your weekend!
